Chic Fourth of July Outfits for 2020

OUTFITS THAT GO BEYOND WEARING STARS & STRIPES

Fourth of July may look a little different this year due to the pandemic. Sadly, we will have to limit gathering in large crowds to watch fireworks or going to parties. But don’t let that bring down your style! Looking for an outfit that goes beyond the traditional Stars and Stripes? Here are a few chic Fourth of July outfits to try!

CLASSIC & COMFY

Redhead wearing white top and denim shorts standing against brick, Erin Whitcomb, She's Red Haute. Fourth of July outfit

You can’t go wrong with the classic white button-down and denim shorts. For example, I chose this top from Banana Republic and these high-waisted shorts (similar here) from Urban Outfitters. If you’re celebrating stay-at-home style in your backyard, this look is the way to go because it’s light and comfy. Plus, if you are a redhead, you’re lucky to have the best red accessory around! If you’re not, pair this look with a red earrings!

SOPHISTICATED STYLE

Redhead wearing blue top and grey pants standing against tan wall, Erin Whitcomb, She's Red Haute. Fourth of July outfit for 2020

A sleek look with a pair of tailored high-waisted pant and a puff sleeve top is the perfect outfit for a Fourth of July date. I got these paperboy pants from H&M (similar here) and this lace top from Forever 21 (similar). Paring the entire outfit with large earrings (Similar by Lele Sadoughi) takes it to a whole new level. Complete the outfit with little pops of red, like my red heels (similar at Lulus), Coach wristlet, and a classic red lip.

COLOR POP

Tired of the same ol’ colors? You don’t have to wear the traditional red, white, and blue to stand out this holiday. Try a bright summer color, like yellow! This yellow and white striped dress from ASOS is the way to go. I paired it with white accessories to keep the whole look airy on a hot day. Seriously, what could be more American than wearing a yellow dress while drinking a cold lemonade on the Fourth of July?

PLAY WITH TEXTURE

Redhead Erin Whitcomb of She's Red Haute wearing a white illusion top with an H&M denim skirt. Fourth of July outfit for 2020

If you want to take a typical white and blue look up a notch, play with texture! The key is pairing it with simple pieces so that the accent can be the star of the show. This illusion top (similar here) illustrates this nicely, paired with a simple denim skirt from H&M. I completed this textured look with a hint of hot pink in my accessories. It’s a fun way to play on the classic red color.

Whatever it is that you do for the Fourth, please stay healthy and safe!

SEVEN Hair Care is a Game Changer

Erin Leigh of She's Red Haute holding Seven Hair Care's Kente Bond Shampoo and playing with red hair

Obviously, as a redhead, taking care of my hair is of the utmost importance.  I mean, I run a redhead fashion blog…so I have to keep my locks healthy.  One of my 2019 resolutions was to start using more clean products, due to my hair and face getting very sensitive in the last few years.  I’m trying to cut back on harmful chemicals and support brands that are more eco-friendly.  I began this journey with SEVEN Hair Care.

Back in mid-January I started using their products.  I wanted to test them for about a month to give an honest review.  I am 100% happy that I tried these products.  THEY ARE A GAME CHANGER!!!!!  I have very straight very dry hair that breaks and splits very easily.  There was a noticeable difference in the texture and strength of my hair.  I have separated my evaluation into two categories: 1) The Clean and Green Details of SEVEN Hair Care, and 2) My Thoughts on each product.

Seven Hair Care's Bond system, she's red haute

CLEAN & GREEN DETAILS of SEVEN HAIR CARE:

  • SLS and SLES free
  • Paraben Free
  • Cruelty free
  • Certified American Made Beauty product.
  • All SEVEN Hair Care products promote environmentally friendly manufacturing using aspects such as solar energy and utilizing water saving filtration systems

MY PRODUCT THOUGHTS:

Overall Products: I love how SEVEN Hair Care’s products have a clean smell without being overpowering.  Also, these products are completely worth their reasonable pricing.  When it comes to texture, the creams don’t feel greasy, the sprays don’t leave a coarseness, and the in-shower products are light and don’t leave any unwanted film.

KENTE Bond System – This system is contrived of a shampoo, conditioner and reparative spray.  I noticed a difference in my hair within a week!  My hair was lighter, stronger, and even my ends felt less “stringy”.  Usually, I have the flattest hair without product.  Volumizing products usually leave my hair feeling coarse.  I saw a significant difference in the added body without adding a grainy texture or coarseness.  After a month of use, my hair feels better than it has in the last two years!

side by side of Erin Leigh of she's red haute using Seven hair care's reparative spray and style cream on red hair for a she's red haute blog

After showering, with the Kente Bond Shampoo and Conditioner, I use the reparative spray on my damp hair, to help prevent against future damage.  For an added perk, it also helps decrease blow dry time.  Then I head onto the styling products!

Side by side of SEVEN Hair Care's Style cream and heat protectant spray, She's Red Haute

SATARA Style Cream – I use the SATARA Style Cream on my damp hair before I blow-dry.  It fortifies your hair with a medium hold to add shine and volume.  It’s a great pre-style blowout cream that doesn’t make your hair feel coarse or weighed down.

RINZU Heat Defense Spray – This is possibly my favorite of the SEVEN Hair Care styling products.  Usually, I style my hair with a curling iron to make a beachy wave, or I use a straightener to refine my naturally straight hair.  Obviously, adding heat is terrible for your hair.  I have noticed a huge difference using the RINZU Heat Defense Spray.  It’s one of the first thermal protectants that doesn’t make my hair feel greasy.  This is a HUGE WIN!  It’s also backed with winning a 2018 Readers’ Choice Award.

Side by side photo of Seven Hair care's Diamond Serum and a few different products, she's red haute

GAZAR Diamond Serum – What is a good styling without a little sparkle?  The best part about this serum is it doesn’t leave your hair greasy.  I was actually surprised because it has a pretty thick consistency.  I add it to my ends first (they are always the dullest due to past dryness) then work my way up.  It’s a perfect finish!

SEVEN Hair Care has products that fit many different hair types. They also have a great color protect line for my redhead loves who hit the salon to get their radiant color.  I’m telling you…and I repeat… A GAME CHANGER!

NYFW RECAP – S/S 2019

After living in New York City for over five years, I miss the fast pace, the fashion, and the food!  I LOVE living in Philly, but when NYFW comes around, I usually try to take advantage of every second.  Due to a contract in Jersey, I had to accomplish Fashion Week in just three days!  My biggest take aways from Spring/Summer 2019 shows?  Three words: color, sequins, and clear vinyl!

Meticulously Eccentric S/S 2019 NYFW Show - NYFW Recap

The bold colors of the 80’s are returning with a vengeance.  Daring pinks, purples, blues, greens, and yellows depict a feminine strength as seen in this years Meticulously Eccentric show.  These hues mirror last seasons power suites and encourage women to be strong and confident!  I supported this theme with an all yellow two-piece outfit by Nasty Gal. I complimented the look with a pair of yellow Nasty Gal shades (similar here), blue Report Ladia Heels, and a clear vinyl bag (similar here).

Custo Barcelona s/s 2019 NYFW Show - NYFW Recap

Sequins and metallic’s are taking over the runway! Unlike the over-use of sparkles in the 80’s, this detailing is modernly designed with sophistication and beautiful craftsmanship.  It allows for a feminine touch of elegance, as well as a flirty rebellious feel when added to denim!  These designs from the Custo Barcelona Show (as seen above) showcase this concept perfectly.  Sleek silhouettes give way to delicate embellishments for dresses, jackets, and even boots.  Additionally, he too rocks the bold color statement throughout his line.  The Custo Barcelona show was hands down my favorite show this season!

Notch Shows NYFW s/s 2019 Vitruvius Collection - NYFW Recap

Lastly, clear vinyl and translucent sleeves will be making their mark in the Spring and Summer of 2019.  My favorite two examples of this glassy trend were the designs at the Vitruvius Collection at the Nolcha Show’s. They designed incredible structured pieces with a strong, mod architectural flare.

I had an absolute blast this year at fashion week meeting new people and getting inspired by the incredible designs for 2019.  Thank you so much to all the PR companies, production companies, and brands for inviting me to your shows!  Here’s to next season!

Spring Sweater Style

Erin Leigh of She's Red Haute Redhead sitting on a white wall and smiling Spring sweater Style

I love when the weather is sunny and crisp at 65-70 Degrees! It’s not cold enough for a winter coat (thank God) and not humid enough to ruin my curls!  It’s the perfect time of year to amp up your spring sweater style!

Light tones finally have their time to shine in the Spring, like this textured knit sweater I’m wearing from H&M.  It may look thick, but it’s actually quite airy.  In the shade, it’s still a little chilly, so I paired the sweater with a heather grey trench I snagged from a consignment shop.  In my opinion, this tone of grey is the most comfortable color to wear.  Maybe it’s because it resembles my favorite sweat pants, but regardless, it’s a comfy and chic color.

Lastly, I finished the outfit with a light wash of Kensie denim jeans and my new favorite slingbacks, the Lailey’s, by Marc Fisher.  The silver color matches the jacket and the metallic finish gives the outfit a little pop!

Laid Back in All Denim

Redhead girl dressed in denim by traintracks looking down

The great thing about denim is that it classically connects every era into one modern look.  This laid back all denim look is a fantastic example of this concept.  These late 60’s/early 70’s inspired bell bottomed jeans by H&M mesh seamlessly with the late 80’s quality of the jean jacket.  Full denim is back on the runway again and it’s all in the details to effortlessly create a contemporary look.  Plus, the blue hue compliments any redhead’s hair to perfection.

This jean jacket, which I found at Buffalo Exchange, was the find of the century!  I love the light acid wash feel to it as well as the delicate rhinestone detailing.  It sparkles in the sun… which is a dream!  I paired this laid back all denim ensemble with a classic pair of Nine West black boots and mixed it up with a Molly Malloy velvet jacket top with illusion sleeves.

Lastly, the H&M train hat inspired the location of this shoot.  By adding it, the black color allows your eye to move from top to bottom of the outfit allowing the blue in the denim to pop!  If you’re going for all denim, you want it to stand out! Try it and tag #shesredhaute on Instagram so I can see your look!

Keeping it Vintage

redhead girl sitting in blue and green poncho looking out

There are a few articles of clothing that make me giddy as a redhead.  I immediately felt just like that when I wrapped this vintage wool poncho around my body!  If you are a redhead, you will completely understand the excitement, as the colors woven through it are perfectly complementary to our locks.  But no matter the color of your locks, this poncho is sure to make you’re eyes widen!

I’m a huge fan of bringing a modern spin back to a beautiful vintage piece, like this 1970’s poncho.  In Carlisle, PA, there’s an amazing vintage boutique called Miss Ruth’s Time Bomb. GO THERE if you’re in the area! They have some of the coolest stuff!

I usually don’t re-post pieces so quickly (Essential Pieces for Fall), but these boots complement the poncho so well! Plus they are super cozy.  I love how these Ralph Lauren boots play with both leather and suede for beautiful detailing.  I completed the outfit with a pair of Levi’s and Ballet Blouse from Revolve.

The 2 Minute Side Bun

Redhead with braided side bun in green shirt

Due to my busy schedule, I don’t always have time to make sure my hair is perfectly curled or straigtened.  Often times, I need a quick on-the-go up-do to keep my long tresses out of my face.  This hair look only takes TWO MINUTES!!

What you’ll need: Hairspray or boosting spray for texture (so the pins stay in and for volume), a hair tie, and some bobby pins.

First: Part your hair to one side. Roll the side that has more hair to just behind the ear and pin into place.  Then roll the other side from the front, to around the back of your head, meeting the end of the other roll behind your ear.

Combine and secure both to one side of your head behind your ear.  Then braid!

Wrap hair in circular motion around the hair tie, then pin into place.

Sometimes, I add Loreal’s Boost It spray to give my hair a little texture, then I tease it for added volume.  The more you tease, the larger your bun will be, which is great for more formal occasions.

I love the versatility of this look.  I have done this up-do for formal events as well as going to the gym to keep my hair out of my eyes.  Quick and easy.  Try it out!

All In the Family

Redhead girl leaning with white shirt and blue pants

This may look like a normal outfit, but really this ensemble is all about my family.  It all started when my bro left for college and left all his shirts.  Like any good sister, I went shopping… in his closet!  This men’s J. Crew button down is literally one of the most comfortable shirts I own.  In the spring and summer it goes with almost every outfit.  To make it a little more feminine for summer, I tied it up.

Gold necklaces of a cross, pennsylvania

To keep a lightweight feel to look, I added three chain necklaces which are all meaningful.  I have lived in many different parts of the USA, so my cousin got me this Pennsylvania chain, from Brooklyn Charm, so I’d never forget where I come from.  The faith, hope, and love chain was my Granny’s, and the cross was from my parents.  To celebrate an important day in my life, my mother got me the Prism Light ring by Moonstone Magic. You will rarely see me without it on.  All together, they make the outfit so special.

Lastly, I paired this outfit with a cool pair of blue slacks from H&M and I added some neutral accents including a belt (featuring a cute belt knot to spice it up), bangles from New York & Co. and tan heels from Target (similar here).  It’s a simple outfit with a lot of meaning.
