Transitioning into Clean Beauty

SPRING CLEANING SERIES – PART 2 – CLEAN BEAUTY – CODE BELOW for 30% OFF!

Last week we delved into my Spring Cleaning Series with 7 WAYS TO ORGANIZE YOUR BEDROOM.  This week, we set our sights on transitioning into clean beauty!  Check out the full video above or on IGTV.

DON’T BREAK THE BANK: First, I have noticed that clean beauty and makeup can get super expensive.  So, for this series, I was on a mission to find products that were well priced for the quality.  King Bladud face masks and Helios Luminor nail polish accomplished both of these goals.

THE CLEAN LOOK OF KING BLADUD: King Bladud refuses to sell products that contain parabens, sulfates, additives, thickeners, gums, or preservatives.  Additionally, they don’t use any extraneous fragrances or perfumes.  The company also prides itself on being Leaping Bunny certified as cruelty free. Their suppliers have pledged that their employees are treated with respect and have excellent working conditions.  SIDE NOTE: learn about King Bladud, the historical figure behind the brand’s name HERE.

THEIR PRODUCT: Their dehydrated face masks, which you mix with their  Mortar and Pestle, are great for smoothing and rejuvenating tired skin.  I have been using their G.O.A.T mask and have been loving it!  It contains kaolin clay, bentonite clay, goat milk, baking soda, Vitamin C Ester, Provitamin B5, and Vitamin B3.

MIX IT UP: The mixing process is simple: you add some of the powdered product into the bowl (i used about a tablespoon).  Then you add some water as the hydrant.  I found that two parts powder to one part water did the trick.  You can also add organic fruit as the hydrator instead of water.  Later this week, I’ll be testing this with the BEET YOUR FACE mask using strawberries.  Stay tuned on my social media!

CODES!!! I’m offering an exclusive 30% code for King Bladud.  Use REDHAUTE30 at checkout!

NAILED IT: While you wait for your mask to dry, you can paint your nails a fun spring color with Helios Luminor nail polish. I tried the Livin’ Lovely color and noticed it gave me a gel-like look and wasn’t streaky at all!

THE CLEAN LOOK OF HELIOS LUMINOR: Their vegan nail polish’s are free of Toluene, Camphor, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Ethyl Tosylamide, Xylene, Rosin, and TPHP (Triphenyl Phosphate & Triclosan).  It’s also paraben, phthalate, and cruelty free.  Additionally, it cures in natural light so there is no need for harmful UV or or LED lamps!

MOISTURIZING PROPERLY: After you paint your nails and wash off your clay mask, it’s important to moisturize!  Be sure to use a face and eye moisturizer as opposed to a general body moisturizer.  The pores around our eyes are smaller and our face has thinner skin than the rest of our body.  If you use a body moisturizer on your face, you may not get the proper hydration.  Secondly, don’t use one with alcohol so your face doesn’t burn upon application.

JUST ROLL WITH IT: You can apply your moisturizer with the King Bladud Jade Face Roller.  It’s made of polished stone, so it stays cold to calm swelling in your face or baggy under eyes.  The motion of the jade roller increases circulation and helps accomplish an even layer of product.

7 Ways to Organize Your Bedroom

SPRING CLEANING SERIES – PART 1 – CLEAN YO LIFE…

Happy first day of Spring and welcome to the SPRING CLEANING series!  The next few weeks, we will focus on organizing your life, transitioning to clean beauty products, and tips on wearing sustainable fashion!  This is the best time of year to start fresh.  Check out the full video above for how I organized my small bedroom (note did vertical video for IGTV, so check it out there too!

My move to Philly occurred very quickly last year.  My apartment, which was originally to be temporary,  is very small.  I had to maximize every inch of space to achieve a calm, blissful bedroom.  While Spring cleaning, I came up 7 Ways to Organize Your Bedroom! Follow these tips to optimize the aesthetics and functionality of your bedroom space:

she's red haute plants on white bed

(1) ADD PLANTS – This might seem like a premature step.  I find that when you add a plant or two, it boosts your motivation to make the rest of the space match the calm of added nature. I currently have two plants in my room (as shown above): a Spider plant and a Philodendron.  Check out great modern plants on The Sill.  Both of my plants purify the air and are high oxygen producers.  FUN FACT: the Spider plant is a common plant used by NASA on space missions because it produces so much oxygen!

(2) HATS CAN BE WALL ART – To save on closet space, I aligned my hats on a wall as fashionable, artistic wall art .  Since I’m currently renting and can’t put any holes in the wall, I used Command Wire Hooks and white clips to keep them in place.  It’s fun to look at and great for an on-the-go hat choice!

(3) UNDER-BED STORAGE MADE CHIC – Small spaces call for under-bed storage.  Don’t worry, you don’t have to be 9 inches off the ground like in college!  Richard’s makes Stackable Wood Bed Lifters to match your decor. They come in a few different stains and allow you to choose how much height you need.  I snagged these on Amazon for just $20.

(4) SMALL CLOSET ORGANIZATION – Small closets are obviously not dream closets, however if you live in a small apartment or in the city, this may be all you have to work with.  Fear not!  A few short tips will ensure you get the job organized neatly:

  1. Try ordering your clothing by color for a calming appeal
  2. Use the one color hanger for a tidy look
  3. Put your less-used shoes in storage containers and hang your everyday shoes  on the door with a shoe organizer.  Check out the ones I snagged from IKEA.
  4. Material shelves are a great way to display your pants, skirt, and tops. Be sure to get ones with sturdy bottoms to combat sagging.  Try this one from Wayfair.
  5. Find a laundry basket with a lid, like this one from IKEA.  It keeps the dirty laundry hidden and ensures that smells won’t permeate the rest of your clothes.
  6. Hang your belts on the door!  Simply hang them by width on the back of a closet door by using a door hanger for a structured look.
  7. When you don’t have a drawer set, try material boxes for your socks, bras, and underwear.  I have these ones from Target.

(5) KEEP YOUR BEAUTY PRODUCTS HIDDEN – For most of us, our beauty products take over either our bedrooms or bathrooms.  Hiding them, while keeping them readily available, is the easiest way to clean any space!  I accomplish this with a three drawer vanity (which I repurposed from a youth desk years ago) and a set of shelves….with a door. Each drawer contains my makeup, hair accessories, and hair tools.  The top shelves are for display items, such as sunglasses, makeup brushes, and cotton balls.  I find that having cute glass containers keeps everything orderly but easily accessible.  I got these at IKEA.

she's red haute jewelry organization

(6) KEEP YOUR JEWELRY ORGANIZED – Usually I’m on the go, so I currently have a plastic container which separates all my jewelry (like this one).  Inside of it, I have a smaller container for earrings.  While I would love to have a jewelry box to hold it all, I do not have the space for one, so for now, it works!  Plus it has a lid and is thin, so I can store it anywhere!  Aside from this storage, I keep the pieces that I wear more consistently on my vanity in a small plate and ring holder to keep them neat.

(7) A BED SIDE STAND WITH STORAGE – When making the most of a small space, having a bed side stand with storage is key.  It gives you one more place to collect important trinkets, but keeps them out of sight so your room stays orderly.  Nick and I created this mid-century natural wood bedside stand to fit my exact needs. We used this video as our starting point for its construction.

Sometimes organizing all at once can get overwhelming.  Just take each of these steps one by one and you’ll be sure to have a decluttered and calming room in no time!  Be sure to check out the full video of how I put all these step into practice above or on IGTV!

Redhead washing hair with Monat shampoo - she's red haute

We have officially made it to the third part of my “Surviving Till Spring” series.  In part one, I used my redhead SPF expertise to answer the question: Why Wear Sunscreen in the Winter? Part two was all about what you wear, Making the Most of Sweater Weather by adding Spring neutrals.  Finally, we zero in on your hair care, with how to retain Strong and Healthy Hair with MONAT!

SIDE NOTE: Be sure to scroll down for a chance to win some MONAT product in an exclusive She’s Red Haute GIVEAWAY!!!

MONAT principles - she's red haute

To start off, I have to commend this company.  Beyond their incredible products, they run an initiative called MONAT Gratitude.  They have made a high priority of giving back within the company’s core values.  This initiative doesn’t stop at one event, product, or donation, but is an ongoing movement to make a difference.  They understand the importance of family, love, community, gratitude and culture, which formulated the name MONAT.

CLEAN and GREEN: Aside from this amazing initiative, their products are sulfate, paraben, phthalate, PEG, and DEA/MEA free.  They also don’t use harsh salt systems or harmful colors and fragrances.  So, as you transition into Spring, you can transition into clean beauty with MONAT!

MONAT R3 System - she's red haute

About two weeks ago, I started using MONAT’s R3 System, which includes their  RENEW Shampoo, RESTORE Leave-In Conditioner, and their Rejuvabeads (split hair mender).  The I’ve noticed that most worth while hair products don’t usually lather.  At first, I was worried about the silky lather this shampoo had as I thought it might leave a filmy feeling. However as I rinsed, I could tell it was a not going to be an issue and had a fresh, clean aroma.  The RENEW Shampoo helps hydrate the hair and scalp as well as cleansing.

There is no in-shower conditioner with this system.  Instead, they implement their RESTORE Leave-In Conditioner.  Usually, leave-in conditioners make my hair greasy, so I was hesitant at first about this product.  I used as directed for two weeks.  I have to say, I love it!  It’s super easy to comb through your hair after using.  Additionally, the Rejuvabeads help to repair split ends and damage along hair shaft. THIS PRODUCT ROCKS!  I have noticed a significant difference with less split ends and healthier feeling hair.  Together, they make my hair feel silky and smooth.

MONAT blowout cream - she's red haute

After conditioning and repair, I use the MONAT Blow Out Cream before drying my hair.  Even though it is a thick cream, it leaves your hair feeling light and soft (without feeling greasy). What is fantastic, is that it decreases styling and blow out time.  Less time in the heat means healthier hair!

NYFW RECAP – S/S 2019

After living in New York City for over five years, I miss the fast pace, the fashion, and the food!  I LOVE living in Philly, but when NYFW comes around, I usually try to take advantage of every second.  Due to a contract in Jersey, I had to accomplish Fashion Week in just three days!  My biggest take aways from Spring/Summer 2019 shows?  Three words: color, sequins, and clear vinyl!

Meticulously Eccentric S/S 2019 NYFW Show - NYFW Recap

The bold colors of the 80’s are returning with a vengeance.  Daring pinks, purples, blues, greens, and yellows depict a feminine strength as seen in this years Meticulously Eccentric show.  These hues mirror last seasons power suites and encourage women to be strong and confident!  I supported this theme with an all yellow two-piece outfit by Nasty Gal. I complimented the look with a pair of yellow Nasty Gal shades (similar here), blue Report Ladia Heels, and a clear vinyl bag (similar here).

Custo Barcelona s/s 2019 NYFW Show - NYFW Recap

Sequins and metallic’s are taking over the runway! Unlike the over-use of sparkles in the 80’s, this detailing is modernly designed with sophistication and beautiful craftsmanship.  It allows for a feminine touch of elegance, as well as a flirty rebellious feel when added to denim!  These designs from the Custo Barcelona Show (as seen above) showcase this concept perfectly.  Sleek silhouettes give way to delicate embellishments for dresses, jackets, and even boots.  Additionally, he too rocks the bold color statement throughout his line.  The Custo Barcelona show was hands down my favorite show this season!

Notch Shows NYFW s/s 2019 Vitruvius Collection - NYFW Recap

Lastly, clear vinyl and translucent sleeves will be making their mark in the Spring and Summer of 2019.  My favorite two examples of this glassy trend were the designs at the Vitruvius Collection at the Nolcha Show’s. They designed incredible structured pieces with a strong, mod architectural flare.

Erin Leigh She's Red Haute S/S 2019 NYFW looks - NYFW Recap

I had an absolute blast this year at fashion week meeting new people and getting inspired by the incredible designs for 2019.  Thank you so much to all the PR companies, production companies, and brands for inviting me to your shows!  Here’s to next season!

Laid Back in All Black

Erin Leigh She's Red Haute Redhead Smiling laid back in all black and looking away

This spring season’s weather has been crazy!  When it’s 80 degrees and sunny one day and 60 degrees and raining the next it’s difficult to judge what to wear!  Luckily, no matter what season, you can’t go wrong laid back in an all black look!  The fun part is spicing it up to show off those red locks!

Erin Leigh She's Red Haute Redhead laid back in all black shirt with arms out

I chose to sport this laid back look with a light H&M cold shoulder top with bell selves and a pair of high waisted H&M black jeans.  Unfortunately, I have short legs, so I often wear bottoms that are high waisted in order to give them an elongated feel.  I chose to pair them with these killer Calvin Klein Elin loafers.  Patent leather is making a huge comeback!  Additionally, the shine gives the ensemble a little texture.

SIDE NOTE: All black really makes red hair pop don’t you think?

My favorite part of this outfit is hands down this western floral Nasty Gal belt bag.  The new age fanny packs are back on trend, and I couldn’t be more happy! Who wants to carry a purse all the time anyway? lol. Together, this outfit is comfortable and classic with a modern twist.

Spring Sweater Style

Erin Leigh of She's Red Haute Redhead sitting on a white wall and smiling Spring sweater Style

I love when the weather is sunny and crisp at 65-70 Degrees! It’s not cold enough for a winter coat (thank God) and not humid enough to ruin my curls!  It’s the perfect time of year to amp up your spring sweater style!

Erin Leigh of Shes Red Haute redhead looking down with white background in Jeans

Light tones finally have their time to shine in the Spring, like this textured knit sweater I’m wearing from H&M.  It may look thick, but it’s actually quite airy.  In the shade, it’s still a little chilly, so I paired the sweater with a heather grey trench I snagged from a consignment shop.  In my opinion, this tone of grey is the most comfortable color to wear.  Maybe it’s because it resembles my favorite sweat pants, but regardless, it’s a comfy and chic color.

Lastly, I finished the outfit with a light wash of Kensie denim jeans and my new favorite slingbacks, the Lailey’s, by Marc Fisher.  The silver color matches the jacket and the metallic finish gives the outfit a little pop!

Do you have a favorite spring sweater? I’d love to see your style! Tag me on Instagram so I can see your unique style!

Ta-Dah!

Redhead girl looking down in spring ootd outfit

If you’re heading to Ocean City, NJ next summer, you have to stop by the Ta-dah boutique!  It’s a chic set of stores on Asbury Ave.  Yes! I said SET of stores.  One of the cool things about this brand is that they provide every generation with on trend styles.  Each store has a different theme depending on your ageless style.

I was immediately inspired by this fabulous silver metallic top.  It went great with a pair of distressed jeans and a beige jacket for a little warmth.  Another cool thing about the boutique is that all of their jewelry is only $6… LITERALLY!  You can find so many cool pieces and it’s so affordable!  I chose two bracelets and a necklace/earring set to complete the outfit. I also added a cute pair of sunnies, which I just had to own!  Affordable, unique, and chic.
