MOISTURIZING PROPERLY: After you paint your nails and wash off your clay mask, it’s important to moisturize! Be sure to use a face and eye moisturizer as opposed to a general body moisturizer. The pores around our eyes are smaller and our face has thinner skin than the rest of our body. If you use a body moisturizer on your face, you may not get the proper hydration. 7 Ways to Organize Your Bedroom

The next few weeks, we will focus on organizing your life, transitioning to clean beauty products, and tips on wearing sustainable fashion! This is the best time of year to start fresh. My move to Philly occurred very quickly last year. My apartment, which was originally to be temporary, is very small. I had to maximize every inch of space to achieve a calm, blissful bedroom. While Spring cleaning, I came up 7 Ways to Organize Your Bedroom! Follow these tips to optimize the aesthetics and functionality of your bedroom space:

(1) ADD PLANTS – This might seem like a premature step. I find that when you add a plant or two, it boosts your motivation to make the rest of the space match the calm of added nature. I currently have two plants in my room (as shown above): a Spider plant and a Philodendron. Check out great modern plants on The Sill. Both of my plants purify the air and are high oxygen producers. FUN FACT: the Spider plant is a common plant used by NASA on space missions because it produces so much oxygen!

(2) HATS CAN BE WALL ART – To save on closet space, I aligned my hats on a wall as fashionable, artistic wall art . Since I’m currently renting and can’t put any holes in the wall, I used Command Wire Hooks and white clips to keep them in place. It’s fun to look at and great for an on-the-go hat choice!

(3) UNDER-BED STORAGE MADE CHIC – Small spaces call for under-bed storage. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be 9 inches off the ground like in college! Richard’s makes Stackable Wood Bed Lifters to match your decor. They come in a few different stains and allow you to choose how much height you need. I snagged these on Amazon for just $20.

(4) SMALL CLOSET ORGANIZATION – Small closets are obviously not dream closets, however if you live in a small apartment or in the city, this may be all you have to work with. Fear not! A few short tips will ensure you get the job organized neatly:

Try ordering your clothing by color for a calming appeal
Use the one color hanger for a tidy look
Put your less-used shoes in storage containers and hang your everyday shoes on the door with a shoe organizer. Check out the ones I snagged from IKEA.
Material shelves are a great way to display your pants, skirt, and tops. Be sure to get ones with sturdy bottoms to combat sagging. Try this one from Wayfair.
Find a laundry basket with a lid, like this one from IKEA. It keeps the dirty laundry hidden and ensures that smells won’t permeate the rest of your clothes.
Hang your belts on the door! Simply hang them by width on the back of a closet door by using a door hanger for a structured look.
When you don’t have a drawer set, try material boxes for your socks, bras, and underwear. I have these ones from Target.

(5) KEEP YOUR BEAUTY PRODUCTS HIDDEN – For most of us, our beauty products take over either our bedrooms or bathrooms. Hiding them, while keeping them readily available, is the easiest way to clean any space! I accomplish this with a three drawer vanity (which I repurposed from a youth desk years ago) and a set of shelves….with a door. Each drawer contains my makeup, hair accessories, and hair tools. The top shelves are for display items, such as sunglasses, makeup brushes, and cotton balls. I find that having cute glass containers keeps everything orderly but easily accessible. I got these at IKEA.

(6) KEEP YOUR JEWELRY ORGANIZED – Usually I’m on the go, so I currently have a plastic container which separates all my jewelry (like this one). Inside of it, I have a smaller container for earrings. While I would love to have a jewelry box to hold it all, I do not have the space for one, so for now, it works! Plus it has a lid and is thin, so I can store it anywhere! Aside from this storage, I keep the pieces that I wear more consistently on my vanity in a small plate and ring holder to keep them neat.

(7) A BED SIDE STAND WITH STORAGE – When making the most of a small space, having a bed side stand with storage is key. It gives you one more place to collect important trinkets, but keeps them out of sight so your room stays orderly. Nick and I created this mid-century natural wood bedside stand to fit my exact needs. We used this video as our starting point for its construction.

To start off, I have to commend this company. Beyond their incredible products, they run an initiative called MONAT Gratitude. About two weeks ago, I started using MONAT’s R3 System, which includes their RENEW Shampoo, RESTORE Leave-In Conditioner, and their Rejuvabeads (split hair mender). The I’ve noticed that most worth while hair products don’t usually lather. At first, I was worried about the silky lather this shampoo had as I thought it might leave a filmy feeling. However as I rinsed, I could tell it was a not going to be an issue and had a fresh, clean aroma. The RENEW Shampoo helps hydrate the hair and scalp as well as cleansing.

There is no in-shower conditioner with this system. Instead, they implement their RESTORE Leave-In Conditioner. Usually, leave-in conditioners make my hair greasy, so I was hesitant at first about this product. I used as directed for two weeks. I have to say, I love it! It’s super easy to comb through your hair after using. Additionally, the Rejuvabeads help to repair split ends and damage along hair shaft. THIS PRODUCT ROCKS! I have noticed a significant difference with less split ends and healthier feeling hair. Together, they make my hair feel silky and smooth.

After conditioning and repair, I use the MONAT Blow Out Cream before drying my hair. Even though it is a thick cream, it leaves your hair feeling light and soft (without feeling greasy). What is fantastic, is that it decreases styling and blow out time. Less time in the heat means healthier hair!

Most redheads are aware that although the warmth of Spring and Summer are absent, sunscreen is just as important in the winter. When it comes to your face, the bitter air can have a harsh effect on the fragile skin that is left uncovered. Finding the proper product for winter is key! But why wear sunscreen in the winter? There are a few great reasons:

Snow and Ice Reflect UV Rays – Similar to how you can burn easily when swimming in a pool, the sun reflects off the water onto your skin. In the winter, you can be surrounded by snow and ice, which has the same effect. Basically, it’s like laying in the yard with a vintage sun reflector from the 60’s.

Winter is Rough on the Skin – Cold wind and dry air results in skin being chapped over the winter. Without the proper hydration and protection, your face will undoubtably take on a reddish hue and crack due to dryness. Sunscreen creates a guarded barrier against these effects. Like an umbrella for your face!

Unfortunately, when it’s chilly outside, you don’t feel the sun’s cruel rays. I kid you not, I was a Philadelphia Eagles game toward the end of the season where it was 38 degrees and SUNNY. The sun was beating on us for a good portion of the game and my face got burnt!

However, I understand if you don’t want to feel greasy or smell like a pina colada all winter. While Pina Colada’s are delicious, this is a valid complaint.

I recommend using Coola Sun Care’s Classic Sunscreen. It’s super thin and dries quickly. I didn’t believe it at first since it is SPF 50, which is usually super thick. But after I tested it for two weeks, I am a firm believer. Also, you can try it in a clean White Tea scent... so bye bye coconut smell! Some of their other sunscreen products also come in a fresh cucumber scent or you can go unscented. A great winter perk: it’s also a moisturizer! It protects and keeps your skin from drying out. I recommend using it under your foundation.

This year, I have been making it a priority to use more natural products on my sensitive face. Obviously, as a redhead, taking care of my hair is of the utmost importance. I mean, I run a redhead fashion blog…so I have to keep my locks healthy. KENTE Bond System – This system is contrived of a shampoo, conditioner and reparative spray. I noticed a difference in my hair within a week! My hair was lighter, stronger, and even my ends felt less “stringy”. Usually, I have the flattest hair without product. Volumizing products usually leave my hair feeling coarse. I saw a significant difference in the added body without adding a grainy texture or coarseness. After a month of use, my hair feels better than it has in the last two years!

After showering, with the Kente Bond Shampoo and Conditioner, I use the reparative spray on my damp hair, to help prevent against future damage. For an added perk, it also helps decrease blow dry time. Then I head onto the styling products!

SATARA Style Cream – I use the SATARA Style Cream on my damp hair before I blow-dry. It fortifies your hair with a medium hold to add shine and volume. It’s a great pre-style blowout cream that doesn’t make your hair feel coarse or weighed down.

RINZU Heat Defense Spray – This is possibly my favorite of the SEVEN Hair Care styling products. Usually, I style my hair with a curling iron to make a beachy wave, or I use a straightener to refine my naturally straight hair. Obviously, adding heat is terrible for your hair. I have noticed a huge difference using the RINZU Heat Defense Spray. It’s one of the first thermal protectants that doesn’t make my hair feel greasy. This is a HUGE WIN! GAZAR Diamond Serum – What is a good styling without a little sparkle? The best part about this serum is it doesn’t leave your hair greasy. I was actually surprised because it has a pretty thick consistency. I add it to my ends first (they are always the dullest due to past dryness) then work my way up. It’s a perfect finish!

LEGIT though…. if you have not tried Sheer Miracles Redness Reducers, you NEED to get in on this!! HIDE THE RED and GREEN LOOSE Redness color correctors are HANDS DOWN my favorite product I have tried all year! Unfortunately, I have always had a hard time covering my blemishes. Sadly, no green colored product has ever done the trick. So, I was not enthused about trying the samples I received. Boy, was I wrong! Actually, I like both when used together. I find that the best coverage comes from this process:

Apply foundation
Apply HIDE THE RED cream based color corrector. This acts as an initial coverage for those pesky blemishes. Use a concealer brush, not your finger!
Apply GREEN LOOSE mineral color corrector. I found that if you dab just a little of the mineral powder corrector over the cream base, it locks both redness concealers into place!
Apply your normal concealer. To cover both green layers, pat your normal concealer over the green layers with a brush or blender.

My skin gets extremely dry and red during the winter, especially on windy days.
